I've had good/real chai in the US before, but could never figure out how to make it myself. I just got back from India and got to drink a lot of chai there. But pretty much, all that stuff they sell that they label 'chai', none of it really tastes like it. I try make it with milk and what not but it always just tasted kinda like normal tea, chai is thicker, tastes almost more like hot chocolate than tea.

This rich warm tea may be served with milk and sweetener or even simmered in milk rather than steeped in water for a real Indian treat. The blend includes warm spices of cardamom and ginger and other spices

This is a blend of exotic aromatic spices fot tradiitional Indian tea. Chai is a sweet, spiced milky tea drink traditionally made with cardamon and other spices, and stewed or brewed black tea in a color and consistency of hot chocolate.

For one cup tea: Put tea bags in water and let it boil vigorously for 5 minutes. Pour milk and add sugar. Let it boil until the milk rises. Add crushed cardomom pods or ginger. Serve hot. If you use ginger, take it out of tea before drinking. You can also use teapowder in which case, you need to filter tea as you would do for coffee. For better taste, tea should be boiled for long time. The more you boil, the creamy it will be. I find that tea powder is better than tea bags. The amount of sugar can be varied with your taste.

There is no fixed recipe or preparation method for chai and many families have their own special versions of the tea. The key to making good tea is to leave the tea leaves (or tea dust) in the hot/boiling water long enough to get the flavor of the tea but not too long.
